Stress Reliever....
Let that rock and read this...
I look at music as an extension of a person's mood.
Whether it be a feeling of worthlessness, excitement, or ambition, music can definitely set the tone for the moment. Since I'm making a transition in my life which will hopefully work out in the long run I've had this in rotation in my car nonstop.
Introspective music. Calming music. Something to think to.
This style & type of music is absent from what most people hear from day to day for whatever reasons. It's definitely a change from the south music that I normally blast out of my speakers while speeding down I-264 on the way to work.
Fuck the mainstream. VA's got talent.
My Dad put me on to this guy who's from our hometown of Richmond, VA. Church Hill to be exact. His music transcends from jazz to funk while remaining completely cohesive. Pure artistry in every sense of the word. A change from what dominates our Billboard lists.
If J- Dilla (RIP) took notice, you should too.
(He sampled "Devika" for Badu's "Didn't Cha Know")
So next time you're at the local record shop check for Lonnie Liston Smith & The Cosmic Echoes. Fuck Best Buy. Fuck the Mainstream.
Bonus:
Sampled for "Dead Presidents" and "Take Me As I Am"
